MLS Soccer
We got comps from the office for the MLS Soccer game between the local pro team the Colorado Rapids and the nation’s capital DC United. So off we trundled to our first of many planned professional sporting events.
This is Invesco Field, home to the Denver Broncos, and the lesser supported Rapids.
They have that whole singing of the anthem and parades and stuff. The anthem was sung by this US marine, I must say, it was quite chilling – it really gave me chicken pox all over! The cheerleaders were half belters at best.
The stadium is really fancy, big screens all over, nice comfy and spacious seats. Capacity is 51 000, I think, with three tiers worth of seats.
Strangely, soccer here is aimed primarily at the kids as a family outing – and soccer amongst little girls is massive! The entire stadium is non-smoking!! But they sell beer though. The football was okay, but definitely not premier league stuff. A fucking good goal was scored, mind you. The Rapids won one-nil. There was a huge push around after one of the DC guys spiked a defender off the ball, but right in front of the ref.
The broncos statues outside the stadium.
